Knitting Around by Elizabeth Zimmerman
Description
Description
Knitting Around is Elizabeth Zimmermann's 4th book, a collection of circular designs, techniques, and autobiographical “digressions.” Together, they form an account of Elizabeth's childhood in England, learning to knit, art school and travel throughout Europe during the late 1920s and early 1930s, and an eventual immigration to the United States prior to WWII, a fascinating read.
Knitting Around includes chapters on socks, mittens, seamless fair isle yokes (with henley style option), Norwegian-style sweaters, as well as garments with innovative construction such as the Moebius scarf and vest, the Very Warm Hat, the Bog jacket (for adults or babies), dickeys, Pi Are Square Shawl, and an Aran coat.
To this updated edition, Meg and Cully Swansen have added full-color throughout the book, and many other 21st century improvements: better charts, more garments, more sizing, editors' comments and clarifications within the text, edited instructions, and clearer organization. Plus, Meg has added notes to preface each chapter. Especially exciting for EZ fans is the improved quality of archival images, new photographs, drawings, and paintings throughout, as well as expanding the gallery of Elizabeth Zimmermann's art.
